Method

Step 1: Prepare the Dough
Dear Lykkers! Combine the wholemeal flour, plain flour, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Gradually add the olive oil and hot water while stirring with a wooden spoon. Continue mixing until the dough becomes soft, elastic, and non-sticky.
Step 2: Knead and Rest
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes until smooth. Divide the dough into 10 equal portions (or fewer for larger chapatis). Shape each portion into a ball and let them rest for a few minutes.
Step 3: Roll Out the Chapatis
Lightly flour the surface and rolling pin. Roll each dough ball into a thin, tortilla-like round. Ensure the dough is evenly flattened for consistent cooking.
Step 4: Cook the Chapatis
Heat a frying pan over medium heat until it is hot, and lightly grease it with olive oil. Place a chapati on the pan once it begins to smoke slightly. Cook for about 30 seconds or until brown spots appear on the underside. Flip the chapati and cook the other side for another 30 seconds.
Step 5: Serve Warm
Transfer the cooked chapati to a plate and keep warm by covering it while the remaining chapatis are cooked.

Notes

Adjusting Size: If larger chapatis are preferred, divide the dough into fewer portions.
Consistency: Ensure the dough is soft but not sticky for easy rolling and cooking.
Storage: Wrap cooked chapatis in foil or a clean kitchen towel to keep them warm and soft.
Enjoy freshly made chapatis with your favorite dishes and experience the authentic flavors of this traditional bread!
